WECS – Eye Health Examination Wales

PEARSWEHElogoThe Eye Health Examination Wales (EHEW)  has been set-up in conjunction with the Welsh Assembly Government to provide free eye-care for selected groups of patients who may be at higher risk of eye disease,  along with patients who develop a sudden eye problem.

You may qualify for an EHEW if you:

  • have an acute eye problem that requires urgent attention
  • are referred to us by your GP
  • are uniocular
  • are hearing impaired
  • have retinitis pigmentosa
  • are at risk of eye disease due to family history
  • are at risk of eye disease due to ethnic background

You may also qualify if:

  • you are referred by the Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Service Wales
  • you are being monitored for dry Age-related Macula Degeneration
  • you have been referred by the Hospital Eye Service following cataract surgery
